Sun Documentation - General Ledger

Financial Reporting Subdimensions (FRS) is used to sub-divide the codes for an analysis dimension into meaningful parts. This is only possible if different sections of the analysis codes have different meanings. For example, the 2nd and 3rd characters of a 5 character product code might identify the product type.
Subdimensions can be used by the Financials report writers to refine the codes used to select transactions for reporting. Using the product code example above, you could create a subdimension to identify the product type portion of the code and use this to restrict the transactions selected for a report to those for a particular product type.
A subdimension code uses a mask character, an '*' asterisk, to identify the positions of the code that are to be ignored. It leaves the important characters in the code blank.
You can define several subdimensions for a dimension, for example where different parts of the code are to be used to extract details for different reporting requirements.

Analysis Dimension
The analysis dimension for which codes are to be analyzed. Analysis dimensions are defined using Analysis Dimension Setup (ND). A dimension must have been assigned to an entity using Analysis Structures Setup (NS) before it can be selected here. If you want to create a financial reporting subdimensions for Ledger Analysis then you have to enter the codes from T0 to T9, where T0 corresponds to Ledger Analysis 1, etc. For account analysis the codes will be A0 - A9, for fixed assets F0 - F9. In this example I have created a financial reporting subdimension for Ledger Analysis 1 - Product, three characters long, and which ingnores the first two characters.
Subdimension
A character between A and Z to identify the particular subdimension, for the analysis dimension. This can be used as part of the selection criteria in Financial Analysis Layouts, Financial Statement Layouts and Financial Tables Formats.
Analysis Heading
The description of the subdimension.
Subdimension Mask
The mask character, '*' asterisk, identifies the parts of the analysis code to be ignored.
After you have defined your Financial Reporting Subdimensions you can use them in financial reports: FA, FT and FS:

In this example I have changed the trial balance report TB in Financial Analysis Layouts - FAL (PKP business unit) by adding Subdimension 1 - B
When I run this report in FA, I will be presented with a field "Type Last Char" that asks me to enter the last character of my Product ledger analysis 1 code. Just enter the code by deleting the asterisks. As a result the report will pick up only transactions with Product codes ending with the character specified.
