Sun Documentation - System Administration
If you have a multi-lingual license for SunSystems, you can specify the language in which you want the user interface to be. Available languages are defined in the serialization details and Language Setup (LAN).
Languages are associated with operators so that each operator can work in his/her preferred language. For example, if a member of a London office was visiting a Paris office and logged into the system in Paris they would see the English version of SunSystems displayed.
Base Language
The base language is the main language of the system. It is identified as such in the serialization details and is the default of the system.
Additional Languages
SunSystems can support up to 99 language versions; the base language and up to 98 additional languages.
Operator Language
The language for each operator is defined in Operator Setup (OS).
Language Code
Languages are identified by a two digit code. SunSystems uses this code to identify languages. This is normally the international dialing code. The list below shows the codes for some of the languages available:
01 English
49 German
31 Dutch
55 Brazilian/Portuguese
33 French
81 Japanese
34 Spanish
86 Chinese Simplified
39 Italian
87 Chinese Traditional
Other languages are available for SunSystems. Contact your supplier for details. Setting Up Multi-Lingual SunSystems
If you have a multi-lingual license for SunSystems, you can specify the language in which you want the user interface to be, by setting a language for each operator in Operator Setup (OS).
You can use Amend to change the default separators for thousands and decimals.
Note: The installation procedure automatically adds the language records.
Language Setup (LAN) form contains the following information:

Language Code
Enter or select a code to identify the language.
Decimal Separator
Character used as the separator for decimal places in the specified language. It is strongly recommended that you always set this field to the preferred character for the selected language. If left blank, the settings in Business Unit Setup (BUS) are applied instead, hence the need to ensure this field is entered.
Read Right-to-Left
Indicates whether or not the language is read from right to left. This indicator allows the system to dynamically mirror the user interface.
Thousand Separator
Character used as the separator for thousands, millions etc., in the specified language. It is strongly recommended that you always set this field to the preferred character for the selected language. If left blank, the settings in Business Unit Setup (BUS) are applied instead, hence the need to ensure this field is entered.
Note: The decimal and the thousand separators should not be the same character.
Important Note: The decimal and thousand separator characters are replaced with characters defined in the regional settings when generating streamlined reports.
Label Prefix or Suffix
Indicates whether value label descriptions are displayed before or after the value label value. For example, you can display Discount on Net Conversion Rate (prefix) or Conversion Rate Discount on Net (suffix) where Discount on Net is the value label description.
