You can specify one or more items to be used as an alternative item. For example, if the item requested is out of stock you can specify an item which can be used in its place. You can also define a superseding item. For example, if a model has been replaced by a newer version. Orders for this item automatically allocate the superseding item after the effective date.
From the Action menu within Item Master select Alternative Item. The form contains the following fields:

Item Code and Item Description
These fields are populated automatically from the item record currently open in Item Master.
Alternative/Superseding Item
The item to be used.
Alternative or Supersession
Indicates whether the item is an alternative or a supersession.
Effective Date
The date when the alternative or superseding item becomes effective.
Conversion Factor
Indicates the conversion ratio of alternative or superseding, to original product quantity, as this might not be 1. For example, the original product was one pack of four bookshelves; the alternative product to be supplied is four single bookshelf packs. So the conversion factor is 4. If the reverse is applied the conversion factor is 0.25.
Priority
If more than one alternative item is available, you can specify the order in which they are to be used by entering a number in this field.
