Analysis Dimensions Setup
Analysis dimensions are created using Analysis Dimension Setup (ND). An analysis dimension identifies a type of analysis you want to apply to one or more data entities. For example, you may want to analyze by Product, Location, Cost Centre and Employee.
You can define up to 100 analysis dimensions. Each analysis dimension is identified by its Short Heading i.e. product or cost centre, and a separate lookup code is also available.
Up to ten analysis dimensions can be used to analyze any of the analyzable static or transactional entities. A single analysis dimension can be used to analyze many different types of entity throughout the SunSystems modules.
When you define a new analysis dimension you can also determine some of the characteristics of analysis dimension codes. You can:
  • set the maximum length of the analysis codes for the dimension. This is used to automatically adjust the length of the input field when the analysis code is requested, displayed or printed. An analysis code can include up to fifteen characters.
  • identify the valid analysis codes by referring to an existing SunSystems data table (referred to as an analysis table). For example, if an analysis dimension represents Employees you would choose the Employee data table which is identified by Analysis Table Id 0132. See Linking Existing Codes to an Analysis Dimension for a list of these data tables.
  • control whether or not the analysis codes for the dimension can be changed on ledger transactions using Account Allocation (AA).
  • determine whether or not the analysis codes entered on transactions must be predefined, by choosing whether the codes are validated when they are entered.
Now let’s create an Analysis Dimension to enable analysis by Country.
  • From the Navigation Pane click on Setting up Analysis
  • From the Forms pane select Analysis Dimension Setup
  • Alternatively you can type ADEX or ND in the shortcut field
Enter the fields as below to create an Analysis Dimension of up to 15 characters for COUNTRY

Analysis Table Id
If the valid codes for this dimension exist within a nominated SunSystems analysis table, you can select that table to populate this analysis dimension. When you create the analysis dimension, the codes that exist on the chosen table are created as analysis codes for the dimension. Subsequently, whenever a new code is added to the chosen analysis table code, it is also added as a new analysis code for the dimension automatically.
Linked
The Linked flag can only be set if an analysis table has been selected for the analysis dimension. Select the Linked flag to reflect any subsequent amendments to selected fields, or deletions, on the source analysis table codes, to the analysis dimension codes.
Length
Enter the length of the analysis codes that are defined for this analysis dimension. A code can include a maximum of fifteen characters. However, if all of the codes for a particular dimension are shorter than this you can enter the maximum length here to reduce the number of characters used for this dimension on forms and reports.
Amend in Account Allocation
Select this option if the analysis codes for this dimension that have been entered on transactions can be altered using Account Allocation (AA).
Validated
Select this option if the analysis codes for this dimension are to be validated when they are entered. If they are not validated, you can enter any code for the dimension, regardless of whether or not it has been defined. This validation applies to analysis codes entered on transactions and on static data, for example accounts. This flag is set by default.
Analysis Table
When you define your Analysis Dimension it is possible to choose to populate it with a data table already set up elsewhere in SunSystems. To access this table simply select the Analysis Table Id query button and the following list will be displayed.
