Sun Documentation -
System Implementation

Page 4 of 5 Minimum Hardware Recommendations for SunSystems These suggested recommendations are based on a two tier implementation utilising a combined WIN 2000, SQL Server 2000 and SunSystems 5 application server, hosted on a single dedicated server machine. The figures are intended only as a guide and vary depending on a number of factors such as heavy reporting requirements, I/O subsystem performance, data volumes and network traffic. Other software requirements should also be considered e.g. Excel. This is based on an average of three sessions per user. Additional allowances would need to be made if more sessions and users are required. Two Tier Installation - Client Client performance exhibits a relatively linear performance gain as CPU power increases and the recommended processor is an Intel 550 MHz with 256 MB of memory. Two Tier Installation - Server Symmetrical MultiProcessing (SMP) Servers can greatly improve the performance of SunSystems. For smaller data volumes and few users, a single processor is adequate. Where performance is critical or data volumes and the number of users are greater, more than one processor is recommended.
