Questions and Answers
What is SunSystems Transfer Desk?
SunSystems Transfer Desk and its associated components provides the ability to transfer data internally within a SunSystems database and to transfer data to/from external flat/delimited files. This includes the ability to define the external files and how they map to SunSystems data. These transfers can be run manually or automatically. Other Transfer Desk functionality includes:
  • filtering, sorting and summarizing data.
  • import error correction.
  • manual editing of mass volumes of data.
Transfer Desk is the collective term for the following SunSystems functions:
  • Transfer Desk  (TD) - runs manual or automated transfers of data within the SunSystems working environment, or with user-defined flat/delimited external files.
  • Transfer Profile Designer (TPD) - sets parameters that are required during the transfer process.
  • Transformation Designer (TXD) - creates XML based scripts to carry out certain functions or processes during a transfer.
  • Transfer File Designer (TFD) - imports/exports flat file formats.
How to turn off Sun log file generation?
Normaly during its operation Sun generates log files and writes them in Sun programe directory on the application server. If Sun is generating many log files you can turn it off.
Solution:
There is a parameter within the sun5.ini file that selects the type of logging. Set Sun5-Log  to:
  • 1 -  All logging turned off
  • 2 - Log only errors. The file will be created and never deleted, even if no errors occur.
  • 3 - Log only errors. If no errors occur the file will be deleted at the end of the session.
  • 4 - Log errors and runtime information.
  • - Log errors and runtime information with file flushing. This ensures all information is written to disk and not lost if the program crashes. The name of the file is <Machine Name><Session Number>.log. The session number is a sequential number generated by the system for each new session.
'Failed to Download forms' error message.
Sometimes when  you enter a function in Sun the systems throws you an error message 'Failed to Download forms'. How should it be sorted out?
Solution:
1. Check that all the form files are within the SunSystems ServerFiles directory.
2. Run Filter Data Dictionary Regeneration (FLDDR)
3. Run Forms Compiler (FC).
How to change permissions for actions on a form?
There are situations when you want to restrict access to certain menu actions. For example, for an operator group Accounts Payable you want to disable account creation in Chart of Accounts Setup, but you want them to be able to see accounts.
Solution:
There are two ways of changing permissions for actions on a form:
1. In Forms Designer (FD) go to View -> Form Actions from the drop-down menu or
2. Use Forms Permissions Editor (FPE).
'The SunSystems Server is Unavailable...'? message.
Sometimes when you are working in Sun or trying to log in the system can generate a strange error message:
'The SunSystems Server is unavailable. Since there are no remaining functions open SunSystems will now close down'.
What do you need to do in this case?
This message appears when Navigation Manager cannot find the Application Server listener (SessionManager). In a two/three tier configuration the Session Manager runs as a service on the Application Server, during the installation of the client software you would have been asked the name of the computer which is hosting the applications.
When Navigation Manager starts it tries to open a socket to the designated server so that a connection to the applications can be made. In a one/two tier (stand-alone client-server/remote SQL server) configuration the Session Manager is running on the local machine, this will not have asked for the machine name during installation but would have obtained from the OS. When SunSystems is installed it includes a utility to change to a different Application Server.
Go to SunSystems menu: Start -> Programs -> SunSystems 5 select SwitchServer. Run this and enter the computer name of the machine you want to connect to.
If this still fails, check the application server's Task Manager to see if Session Manager is actually running.
If not, then start the service from Control Panel > Services...
